This active component is used for more than thirty years in medicine to treat contractions of facial muscles and “ticks". The muscles that create wrinkles loosen, as the contractions become less intense and wrinkles disappear. This technique is applied by taking into consideration the naturalness in expression one wishes to achieve, as well as the maintenance of a fresh and rejuvenated look without actually changing any facial features. The goal of the treatment is not to eliminate all wrinkles, quite the contrary. We wish to maintain mild movement so that an individual doesn’t lose their expressiveness. The therapy is applied to the upper third of the face and in particular the horizontal wrinkles of the forehead, the crow’s feet wrinkles and in between the eyes.
The active substance is injected intramuscularly with the help of a very thin needle and the procedure is almost painless. In the injection sites you will see slight swelling that will disappears after a few minutes. The muscles need 3-4 days to calm down and to allow the overlying wrinkles to reside. The treatment is local and is applied only to the muscle that has been injected. Results are known to be at their best after the first week, and are maintained for 4-6 months.
Botulinum toxin can be combined with other non-invasive tightening and moisturizing treatments such as autologous or needle mesotherapy, skin-tightening laser treatment and an EasyLift face-lift using PDO threads.
At the end of the treatment there may be a mild irritation, which subsides in the next couple of hours. Rarely, the injections points may experience some bruising, which disappears in the coming days.
