Four basic steps for post-summer nutrition

Four basic steps for post-summer nutrition

Long exposure to the sun during the summer may intensify the signs of aging on the skin. Therefore, it is important to pay close attention to your post-summer diet, in order to prevent the occurrence of photo-aging.

Stay hydrated!

Surely drinking water is an excellent habit that we adopt naturally when the weather is hot, but it is up to us to make it a habit during the rest of the year as well. Make sure you drink enough liquids: at least 8 glasses, or the equivalent to 2 litres per day. Besides water, another great option is sugar-free iced green tea, which will help to boost your fluid intake. Don't forget that green tea is rich in antioxidants, which delay the signs of aging and contribute to proper metabolic function.

Enrich your diet with plenty of fresh vegetables.

Always accompany your main meals with a salad. Vegetables such as broccoli, carrots, spinach, cabbage and lettuce are good sources of vitamin A, which can help to rebuild the skin and improve its appearance. In addition to this, you can enrich your salad by adding a little bit of olive oil or half an avocado, foods that are good sources of vitamin E. Vitamin E has a strong antioxidant effect and protects the skin from free radicals that increase as a result of extended sun exposure, ultimately contributing to the signs of aging.

Eat raw nuts in between meals or add them to your salads.

This will help you to better regulate your appetite, while boosting your intake of antioxidants and minerals, which are found in nuts. Vitamin E and selenium are among the most important antioxidants in nuts - almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds and Brazil nuts are excellent sources of these.

Eat fruit as a snack or instead of dessert.

Fruits are a good choice of snack as they will not burden you with calories, while their valuable nutrients will give you a rejuvenation boost. One of the most valuable nutrients during this season is vitamin C, which is found in sufficient quantities in kiwi, citrus fruits, mango, pineapple and berries. Opt for fruits rich in vitamin C, as this vitamin contributes to collagen synthesis, and it appears that its adequate intake boosts this process of regeneration in the skin.
