What you need to know about Botox

Botox is the trade name of botulinum toxin, a substance that has been used since 1980 in medicine for the treatment of facial muscle contractions. Botulinum toxin reduces muscle contractions that create new wrinkles, or increase the appearance of existing wrinkles. As the muscles relax, the contractions become less intense and the wrinkles are gradually smoothed out and eliminated.

Facial wrinkles can be divided into static wrinkles, which are visible when the person is at rest, and dynamic wrinkles, which are generated by facial expressions, and become static wrinkles over time. So, if you haven't got any static wrinkles in your face, you can avoid them by immobilizing the facial muscles. If you already have static wrinkles, Botox helps to gradually smooth them out and reduce their appearance.

Although there is no ideal age for someone to begin Botox treatments, we recommend starting when the first wrinkles appear in the face, which depends on many factors, such as age, skin quality, conformation of the facial muscles and external factors such as sun exposure. This is why preventive treatment before the formation of wrinkles is recommended, in order to maintain a youthful appearance.

The results are complete two weeks after the Botox treatment is applied, and does not distort the facial features. After a few months, the skin appears much fresher than before the treatment.
