Lose 1kg of fat in a year by taking the stairs

We expend about 0.5Kcal to climb one step, based on an adult weighing 70kg and a regular walking pace. It is well known that, to lose 1kg of body weight (including body fat), we need to create a calorie deficit of 7,700Kcal.

So, let's take out our calculator. To burn off 7,700Kcal just by climbing stairs, we need to climb a total of 15,400 steps.

This might seem like an extreme number to many, but if you divide it by the number of days in a year, we can find otu the number of steps we need to climb per day to get rid of 1kg of body weight. This number is 42 steps/ day.

So, climbing about 40 steps on a daily basis, at home, at work, at the train station, etc. can help you lose 1 Kg of fat, without making any changes to your diet or exercise. You will also see an improvement in your overall health and wellbeing. So, change your habits and forget about elevators!
