How to Combat Stretch Marks

Stretch marks of any color are a common skin injury. The intense tension that can be caused e.g. from fluctuations in body weight, causes multiple small ruptures in the skin, accompanied by ruptures of small vessels, which create small hematomas. This is how stretch marks are formed.

The skin is composed of multiple layers of cells with deeper connective tissue, which is rich in collagen and elastin. Collagen gives strength and durability to the skin, while elastin, elasticity. If the skin is rich in elastin it develops less frequent stretch marks.

These subtle and unsightly lines can appear at any time of our lives, however:

  • In women, stretch marks are often appear during pregnancy and lactation, mainly in the abdominal area, buttocks and chest. In addition to weight gain during pregnancy, stretch marks can be related to hormone levels (estrogen, progesterone), which affect the natural production of collagen and elastin in the skin, heredity, taking steroid medications, etc.
  • In men, stretch marks usually occur after a major change in weight, mainly in the abdominal area and around the waist.
  • In teens, stretch marks can occur due to a sharp increase in height and/or weight loss.

Treatment

Many want to get rid of stretch marks for aesthetic reasons. Generally, the more red the stretch marks are, the easier they are to treat, but even for older stretch marks, i.e. white stretch marks, the use of lasers can significantly improve their appearance.

At SYMMETRIA we apply different technologies on a case-by-case basis or even a combination to achieve the desired result.

Laser: Laser therapy uses powerful light beams to trigger skin regeneration. Even if the stretch marks do not disappear completely, they decrease significantly and the surface of the skin becomes smoother.

HIFU: This technology enhances existing collagen in the skin and promotes the production of new, improving the natural elasticity of the skin.

Microdermabrasion: Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive and painless process that contributes to skin renewal and elimination of unsightly stretch marks through mechanical exfoliation.

Microneedling: Microneedling mesotherapy causes natural collagenogenesis and skin regeneration.
