The Importance of Exercise in Maintaining a Healthy Weight

Weight loss is a core concern for the greater population however maintaining a healthy weight seems to be of equal importance.

According to data, over 90% of people who lose weight, regain it within two years. In order to maintain your new weight, in addition to proper nutrition, one should also exercise regularly.

In addition to losing calories and maintaining muscle mass, exercise is also associated with myokines; peptides that are released by muscles when they contract.

Myokines affect the functions of the metabolism, heart, muscles and other organs, while helping to burn fat and remove sugar from the blood.

In other words, they act as balancers, as they reduce inflammation and neutralize the damage caused by chemicals and proteins released by fat, increasing the risk of diabetes, heart disease, etc.

It is worth noting that a combination of aerobic exercise (walking, jogging, cycling) and exercises with weights or rubber bands are needed in order to activate all the muscle fibers, as different muscles release different types of myokines.

30 minutes a day of aerobic exercise and at least twice a week of strengthening exercises are recommended.
