Back on Track

Christmas, like all family celebrations, is filled with love, warmth and lots of delicious food! In many cases, major holidays like Christmas put an end to diet plans for many people around the world. What can we do to leave our holiday diet "slip-ups" behind, and go back to our diet programme?

This article will equip you with some basic information on how you can make a comeback to your normal diet as quickly as possible.

First off, it is essential to know that eating one or two calorie-heavy meals will not cause you to store fat deposits in your body. This is due to the fact that the body is able to store excess calories in the form of glycogen in the muscles and liver. In this context, an increase in body weight shown on the scales is nothing more than temporary stored energy and water retention. Be careful though! If glycogen stores are already full, there is an increased risk of storing body fat. So, if you break your diet programme, the best solution is to get back on track the very next day.

Finally, the holiday season also leads many people to press pause on their exercise routine. So, for the first 2-3 weeks after the holidays, we recommend that you work out every other day, switching between cardio and strength training activities.
